Also known as that time I visited a lot of brew pubs, met a lot of authors, and took a lot of pictures.

Cliffs Notes version-
Got in Thursday after 9 hilarious hours in the car with [livejournal.com profile] pbray , [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow , and Avery Shade. We checked into the hotel and instantly headed to brew pub #1. Good food, good booze, and then we took over [livejournal.com profile] scbutler 's hotel room so that [livejournal.com profile] pbray  and [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow  could watch Project Runway. I was in it for the 5 week old baby. I...have that cooing disorder whenever around wee ones.

This is where things get blurry. I know I attended Patricia McKillip's reading. And jpsorrow's reading (where we mostly behaved) and [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna 's reading. Time was spent spending in the dealer's room. Art room was perused. But the rest of the weekend was a crazy blur of networking, socializing, and brew pubs. I met more people than I can manage to write down. I have faces to put with online handles. I finally got to meet the wonderful woman behind Living With Ghosts,  [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_ , and Ian Tregillis, the man behind Bitter Seeds. There was much splendid conversation. I cuddled my copy of The Habitation of the Blessed after [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna  signed it....And then there was the whirlwind of meeting folks that was the mass signing on Friday night where [livejournal.com profile] pbray  took me around to meet people I was too shy to walk up to myself. [livejournal.com profile] unforth  ended the evening my deciding I needed to man up and just go have Guy Gavriel Kay sign something.

Craziness in bars. Craziness in pubs. Room parties. Homemade cheese. Agents. Ice cream with [livejournal.com profile] unforth . Not much sleeping at all.

The drive in will forever live in infamy. [livejournal.com profile] pbray  and [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow  are not allowed in the front seats together anymore.

[livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna has great love for Habitation of the Blessed. You would as well if you had a copy. You should get a copy.

[livejournal.com profile] pbray has two panel modes. Official Writer and Zombie.

Last trip to the brew pub. Finally caught a good pic of Ian Tregillis. I made up for it by getting him delicious ice cream.

To sum up- holy hell that was a good time. I will be going next year. I don't get to see my author friends as often as when I was running a bookstore, and I miss them dearly. And how else will I manage to sit down to lunch with the new friends I made?

if you are interested in the professional aspect of the genre, it is worth going to. Definitely a pro con. very little fannish programming (some panels, readings), no costumes or shenanigans. closest hat tip to fandom was the mass signing (which was totally worth it). It is focused on networking and meeting folks and sitting at bars and talking the craft with friends new and old.

And it was the best convention I have ever attended. seriously.

It is in San Diego next year. I plan on attending, but have not bought my badge yet. I will be doing so soon as I expect that one to sell out.

I'm impressed by how little you remember of Saturday.

Also: congratulations, you've gotten more good pictures of me than, like, anyone, ever. ;)

So...we're sharing a room in San Diego, right? Riiiight?

ooooh yes. Need to wait til I get back from NYLA to get my ticket, but consider it a plan.

You were the highlight of my mass-author signing, BTW.

Likewise!

I hadn't really processed that you were going to be there, so there was a fantastic moment of utter geeky elation when I saw you.

Thanks for chatting with me a bit- look forward to running into you again!

I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with you this weekend. One of those con things were you run into one person a dozen times, while others you just keep missing.

I did see you in a knot of people, chatting, but didn't want to interrupt.

Darn! You should have come over and interrupted--if we looked serious we were probably chatting about beer.

Beer is not a topic to be taken lightly.

envy!
Ellen Datlow was there, her pictures posted are a freaking awesome rogues gallery. i only found out from someone else's post that my favorite fantasy anthology editor... has an LJ! I'm so out of it sometimes.. i'm a terrible fan. Bad fan, no author cookie.

I sat next to her in the hotel bar while she was chatting with Holly Black...and was too shy to introduce myself *hangs head* I am a terrible fan. She is a brilliant woman.

You know the convention is in San Diego next year, right? I have already snagged a membership :)
