envelope
I received this in the mail today, from someone I have never met, through a card exchange. It is now hanging on my wall, and I don't think I have stopped smiling since I received it.

The wonderful, beautiful little things.

I became a librarian because I have an obscene love of research and books. I adore helping students at the reference desk at the college. I love teaching at the public library. I was thrilled the first time someone checked out my book at the public library, the first time I chatted with someone over a pile of authors we both enjoyed.

It's a brilliant gig if you can get it. Even with my occassional vents of German temper into the reaches of LJ.

And this little envelope really reminds me why I don't mind the venting all that much.

Awe, that is just ♥
I didn't realize you're a librarian! I'm hoping to go to graduate school Fall 2013 for it. I just haven't applied because of money issues and I haven't taken the GRE (I'm an AWFUL test taker). But I hope some day, I get there.

The GRE was far less terrifying than I thought it was going to be. I am also a rather hideous test taker. Since they moved it to a computer format, it was less intimidating for me somehow. I loved library school- went back to get my Masters 7 years after my undergrad, and it was worth it. If you ever want/need advice or a hand, let me know!

I'm just scared of tests. I have a learning disability and I don't retain information. I also can't do math. I mean like 34+78=? I will score badly and will never get in. I think that's why I keep putting it off. I should have already applied and taken that darn test, but I'm just afraid of failure. Among many other reasons.

Oh I'm sure I'll be back with questions in full force! I'm hoping I get into Clarion University that way I can take all my courses online and it's the cheapest option.

Math I need a calculator or scrap paper- I have to be able to work it out by hand or I cannot do it at all *shudder* You can retake the GRE, so at least if it ends in tragedy once, you can fix it. I can understand a certain reluctance though. You will notice that huge gap between my undergrad and my grad :D

And anytime, ask away! I did all of my MLIS online as well. It worked wonderfully, and it becoming much more common.

Math is just irrelevant, the way I see it. That's what cell phones are for! *grumble* I don't think I can afford to pay the $200 for the exam once and fail, let alone do it twice haha.

Thank you :)
I do have one quick question, how long did it take you to find a job in a library after you got your degree?

I actually found a part time job while working on my degree- it was in a library, but did not require a MLS. It was an amazing foot in the door. It has taken me about a year after graduating to be self sufficient in regards to working within my field.
