I woke up in the wee hours this morning to some suspicious sounds, and oddly intent interest from the cats. And then Ferdinand flapped around his cage in irritation.

And then a ferret wandered across my bed.

With a whimper that was half exhaustion half fury, I started launching myself around the room trying to catch ferrets before Lord Phaedrus. [livejournal.com profile] djkc did not secure the cage the night before, and the kids decided to go exploring. Molly was on top of Ferdinand's cage (she wants to nibble on him something awful). Celia was playing happily amidst the clutter I mean't to clean up days ago. Alex was on the bed trying to find a good place to sleep. Alicia was heading towards the closet. Oliver was...being Oliver, which means generally being over excited and falling over his own feet and into things. I rounded up the kids while snarling at Phae to stay right where he was, secured them into the cage, and tried to get some more sleep.

It didn't work out so well. Celia was super excited the door was open once, and was convinced it she kept poking at it that it would open again. And the cats now thought it was play time. And Ferdinand was disgruntled.

So I got up and started planning for the day.

Today I drove to Rochester to bring my sister a cat. She has been wanting one for some time, and I thought a nice, therapeutic snuggle cat was just what she needed with the year we had. I talked it over with her, we discussed the pros and cons and ifs and whens, and yesterday I grabbed a mountains of supplies, paid a year of a health plan on the cat, and then carted a gorgeous 3 year old female Birman named Priscilla to Rochester this morning.

It was 100% worth it. I have not seen my sister that happy in ages. The cat took to her immediately, and she seems enamored of Priscilla as well. It was exactly how I wish every adoption would go. My sister being that happy made my parents happy- everyone was waiting at my sisters home to meet the new family member. It was as close to perfect as the family has been in a long time.

I am exhausted, my fibro really disagrees with the decision to drive 6 hours through wind and snow in one day, but I am also grinning like a maniac. I think I will sleep well tonight.

There have been many times in my life where I've driven a long way for a relatively short event, and while in the car kept telling myself how silly I was being and how this had to be a bad decision - and then had it turn out to be wonderful, perfect, exactly what I'd hoped for, and entirely worth it. I am now a bit proponent of such harebrained schemes, and I am so glad that yours was a success today!

I almost called this one off as everyone was freaking out over the weather, but I am so glad I am stubborn enough to have gone anyway :)

harebrained schemes are the best.

It was the image of my room crawling with ferrets and me half asleep scrambling after them, wasn't it?

AND the ferrets had a hell of a fun morning. (just admit it, they did)

They did. Celia was hell to catch- it involved a maneuver that had me grab while rolling off the bed. And now she is convinced anything she paws at will magically open. It is troublesome.

=-) I hope you can stay warm, drink tea and rest easy today to give your fibro a break. And get non-crazy ferret cuddles.

D provided a stern talking to about the fact I need to get my arse to the doctor. Will probably be tomorrow as I really can't bow out of the PCC today, but I work reference desk, so I am all fussy. I will make it work at some point.

Hooray! I LOVE a happy ending!

I'm glad nothing worst case scenario happened with the ferrets. YIKES!

I'm so happy about the kitty adoption!

AND I realllllly need some help with the GRE. Can you think of a time I can run away to your house? You know a LOT about how I USE words and you have TAKEN and PASSED the test! (You'd be an amazing tutor/translator. ;)

I am generally free Friday (at worst I pop in to do payroll briefly), Sat, and Sunday :)
The library here also has GRE resources (practice tests and the like) available if you wanted to come up one day while I am working I could help you work on that as well

Awesome. I'm looking at my schedule for sled hockey, etc etc, as I am now a FULL coach. Eeeee! :) Barring weather terribleness or life CRAPTASTICNESS, doing this ASAP would be excellent. (I can even self-help... I'll sit quietly and learn and be like a mouse. ;)

Good deal. :) Administering the "Diagnonsense" assessment to myself tomorrow so I'll see where it leads me.

Thankfully the reading comprehension portions look ok. The writing? I just have to learn how to game the damned thing, it's like writing for the CBEST or NYS Certification tests for teaching. Yay outlining skills??

I worry about the math. I'll get it. Dad is nicely asking me about shapes. (Easier than the algebra for SURE... I did pretty well in Geometry.)
