Last night I picked a bucket of blueberries. It was the perfect weather for it- sunny, but late enough in the day it was not too hot. And the area I pick, on family land belonging to a friend, is beautifully remote. Last year we picked to the sound of coyotes calling. This year it was lazy evening bird song and one very enthusiastic bull frog. It was a wonderful evening until the deer flies found me. I am very delicious to biting insects.

The garden has started giving me all manner of veggies. I have pulled a few summer squash, one large zucchini, green beans, peas, and more cukes than I want to admit to. I cannot wait to try pickling next week. And the soybeans are getting ready. The tomatoes all have buds and the bell and hot peppers are getting there. Not bad for a container garden at an apartment. A lot of work, but it pays off. I find myself less likely to attend religious events, but when I am out there weeding, watering, fertilizing, and just plain enjoying watching a bit of wind wave through a lot of beautiful green growing things I definitely pay my thanks to the deities of green growing things and bountiful harvests.

I hope to get some blueberry jam done (and many more blueberries picked. [livejournal.com profile] libwitch ....Sunday?). I am visiting home tonight with [livejournal.com profile] djkc . Bringing my parents fresh blueberries and sharing the yield from my garden. It is a quite wonderful feeling.

I am stressed about many things. Job. Health. Money. Kinda big things that have an annoying tendency to wake me up and keep me awake at night. But there are tons of little things that make me giddy. Ferrets (Alexander responding well to the meds for his diabetes. His surgery is scheduled for August 1st). Ferdinand (who knew a little starling could be so affectionate?). Cats (Mildmay has taken to curling up against me each night. it makes up for the fact Phaedrus does not wander up the stairs much anymore. I think his hips bother him, the silly old man, though he is sprawled in my lap as soon as my butt touches the couch). Fresh fruit and friends to pick and can with. Friends I consider family, even if I don't see them as often as I would like. [livejournal.com profile] djkc , who I will not embarrass by gushing about all over the internet. Being published.

I realized I was pretty ok with life a day or so ago when I had Ferdinand outside in the evening with me. He was exploring everything, but fluttered back to me every time something startled him, or he had been away for more than a minute or two. It was a cool evening. there was a breeze. the fledgling crows were being loud and silly nearby. And I was content. There is a lot of shit to deal with, but really, I never have to deal with it alone, and that is more than enough. It took having my nostril violated by a curious starling to startle me out of my thoughts and into hilarity, but it worked.

Life is good.

Fresh blueberries are heavenly. I hope the stresses ease soon, though.

I was proud I did not eat more straight off the bush last night. Now...to decide which recipes for canning! There are some delightful blueberry/citrus combinations I am gravitating towards.

Thank you! *hug* Stress should ease. I am just in that bizarre finishing graduate school period of limbo where I have no idea where I am going to be or how I am going to support myself. And being an anxious animal, the uncertainty drives me up a wall.

I know what that's like. Best wishes.

this is why i don't quite understand pessimists. When there are so many little things that are amazing and can make you happy, it's really those that you have to look at, because there will always be 'shit' to deal with in the larger pictures :)

It is hard to be a pessimist when a bird is trying its best to pick your nose. Life, at that point, is just too damn funny.

And people wonder why I have a life full of animals :)

There are so many amazing little things in life- you just have to take a minute to notice them. Like my (beloved but oft accidentally neglected) clan of online friends <3.

Yes, having your nose picked by a bird is one of those things for sure. I ... had never even thought of that as an event that could happen in life XD

Well, at least you keep us fairly well updated on your life :)
