Adventure!
Apr. 11th, 2012 08:31 amSo, I saw a concert Monday night. It was more finally getting to meet a friend I had been chatting with long distance for 30 years than a concert- a fascinating and phenomenal experience and something I don't think can ever be replicated.
I was handed off to
suricattus early Monday (a game of pass the hick was played between my two excellent friends. Amusement was had) and I was taken on a fantastic foot tour of some of NYC. It included cultural things I was insanely interested in- OWS and 9/11 relevant locations- as well as some great food, beautiful buildings, and the Strand.
And then Madison Square Garden, the most spectacular concert seats ever, and an amazing audience. Listening to everyone around me chat about shows they had seen, seeing all the concert shirts of varying vintages, being heartily welcomed to the 'family' my the fellow a few seats over...it was amazing.
And oh GODS the show itself. Bruce Springsteen still sweats charisma and sings stories with a pull I will eternally envy and love. Three hours of amazing. As usual, I cannot stand for that long, so I had to be that guy sitting, which always makes me a bit sad, but I loved the show.
Back to
suricattus's place (Subway! Accidental trip to Harlem! Cab!) to meet the cats and pretend we did not feel more tired than the man on stage had looked (and failing) and crashing hard for a few hours until the cats decided to demand breakfast. Being Guest and not Mom, I got to sleep through eloquent feline demands and pull a blanket over my head. Which I assume allowed
suricattus to get some work done as I think I remember hearing typing as I dozed.
Be proud of my, I rode the subway across the city and took the Staten Island Ferry all by myself- a rather big feat with my anxiety issues- to get myself back to my car and friend I had driven down for the holiday weekend, and hauled us back to Binghamton.
Having insanely supportive and understanding friends who understand I am just as frustrated by my irrational ability to handle new situations with grace made this whole city thing doable. And now I can visit again!
