I spent the day/evening yesterday digging into resources on Vodou. I sought this author specifically, after visiting his blog on and off in the past. So far, excellent writing, and a wonderful resource for the Work in Progress. I fear I am a bit distracted, reading into the cultural history of Vodou, as opposed to strictly reading for writing. I do really enjoy research...

I unpacked a box of fire toys. Smaller, lighter fans (not that I am giving up on my babies! My hands are just so bad I can't use them as much as I would want), my first poi (now I don't have to steal [livejournal.com profile] libwitch's every time we spin), and enough supplies that I can be self sufficient. Buckets for fueling, spinning off, tools for fueling the fans, and a large treated blanket for putting tools (and people) out. Hoarded holiday and birthday checks used for the powers of good.

We also got a pre-approval for a mortgage last night. Big step 1, complete. [livejournal.com profile] djkc spent a bit of time chatting with Vati and discussing logistics in regards to the whole house hunting and buying...thing. Now, to go look at a few of the places that have been catching our attention. [livejournal.com profile] djkc has been very tolerant of how anxious I get- in this instance, anxious means impatient. I need to be doing. Moving along the process. Even though I do know it takes forever. It actually made me grin a bit to listen to him and Vati chat, for a whole swath of reasons and emotions I don't know there is vocabulary to properly confine.

I have a FB friend who's a vodou practitioner. Let me know if you'd like an introduction. He's an interesting, smart guy.

Congratulations on the pre-approval.

Also on the fire toys. Having the blanket probably means you won't have to use it.

As Eithne said, let the long, fun trip begins. Or the long, crazy at least.

So onto the other things - what kind of poi did you get? *g*

little baby poi. very basic. We know how I give poi the hairy eyeball. I want to get comfortable with them before I buy interesting ones :)

Just wait until I get the fire balls.

baby poi is fine - I assuming cathedral wicks, then? And hopefully not hollow core. You are beyond them...

little barrel poi. Hoping to move to monkey fist (I like the heft and burn of them) if I can learn some moves beyond the corkscrew and butterfly :)
