Well, the old fire fans are bent, and need a new wick (something about being battered around a flood and then soaking in it) and are a bit heavy for anything but occasional use (for my silly fibro hands)...

Happy birthday to me?

I
had been meaning to replace the wick and see if I could get the spokes of the old fans straightened, but this will happily work in the meantime, and will probably make me happier as I learn more complicated moves.

I also may have been speaking with [livejournal.com profile] libwitch about attending Free Spirit Gathering this summer. It makes me want to spin fire something awful.

Also, one day, and soon, these will be mine. Oh, I want them something awful.

let me ask around but I think the khaos fans are the ones that we have watched people catch themselves - and by people I mean some very accomplished tech spinners even when doing simple moves and get some awesome burns. If they are the ones I am thinking of, its because of the way the wicks are shaped.

The taboos or poisons may be more manageable - or at least not have the problem I am thinking of.

" The problem is that there is very hot metal exposed on both ends of each wick; the end of the wire, and the sharp bend where the wicking stops and the body of the fan begins. Chelsea (one of the fire presenters) burnt her chest and underarm rather badly."

Duly noted!

I did grab some gloves, btw. So that will help when I get the other fans back up and running.

Would you be able to help me selecting the proper replacement wick for the old fans off of Home of Poi?

...of course, now the weather is turned I want to spin :D At least I am interested in doing things again.

I really love fire fans. I enjoy poi, but somewhere in my monkey-brain I am less happy about the ball of fire swinging at me on the end of a chain. And the juggling balls will just be fantastic :D

It's a shame my mother always told me never to play with fire.

Are the old fans made of steel? If so, I could probably attempt the straightening...send me picture.

These are the fans, next to a trade paperback for size reference.

The damage is on the top outside of one of the fans. It isn't major, but it is just enough to bother me. Damaged and undamaged side by side-

They were bashed around in the living room when it flooded, so I am actually impressed this is all the damage they took, considering.

They definitely look fixable. It looks like coated steel....or is it uncoated and the light is throwing me off?

Are they heavy? Is it something you can ship to me? (You'd probably have to clip the wick out...but it sounds like you were going to replace them anyway. I don't think they'll ship that XD) The one fan should be fine. The bend doesn't look too bad that I'd need to use the other fan as a guide to bending it back.

Jus' lemme know.

I'm ten minutes early, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I hope this year brings a lot of great things your way to make up for the last year, but through it all I hope you stay the eternally optimistic and wonderful person I've come to respect and admire ♥
