And lo, the Table of Contents has been officially released! There go the giddy butterflies again! I am squished in a pretty comfortable place between two rather wonderful people and excellent authors.

Anthology Summary:

The fae are among us, adapting to survive among the hordes of humanity that now plague the modern world. In THE MODERN FAE’S GUIDE TO SURVIVING HUMANITY, fourteen authors explore how the fae have integrated themselves into our society. From the aisles of your local shopping center, to Wall Street, to the darkest part of Central Park, the fae have cast their glamour over every aspect of our world. Join us as we lift the veil of faerie and reveal the magical pockets that exist on our very doorstep.

Celebratory board games! And I missed it! waaaaah!

On the other hand, finally got my birthday present of a laminated copy of Seven Wonders. It is the awesome. And I won the inaugural game! If you guys haven't played that one yet, you must. It's fantastic. It's replacing Settlers and Ticket to Ride as the gateway game of choice.

We have not HAD celebratory games yet. Some editors keep very busy schedules.

I am currently still much in love with Tales of the Arabian Nights.

That and Galaxy Trucker. It is amazing and I need to teach it to Tricia immediately.

What is Seven Wonders like? I don't think I have seen that one yet.

I suspect Tricia will have the same problem with Galaxy Trucker that Honeybear does ... it requires spacial manipulation skills. And she is the person who thought the correct way to put a cape on a lego person was to rip off the person's head and wrap the arm hole around their neck. Although, if there was enough beer, who knows?

Seven Wonders is basically a card game, with bits and boards. Each person plays a different Wonder, and tries to progress through three ages of civilization gaining the most victory points for monetary, scientific, military, artistic and commercial advances. Of course, you can't possibly progress in ALL of those, so you have to choose wisely which to advance in and which to sacrifice. Each turn, you choose one card from your hand, then pass the hand to the next player. So you're also juggling advancing your own civilization with trying to keep a juicy card from your opponent. And, in order to play advancement cards, you need to have the resources for them, which you can either develop yourself, or buy from your opponents. So you've also got to juggle THAT. There's a real depth of strategy that makes it truly compelling, yet the basic game is simple enough to be enjoyable right out of the box. And it's super fast playing (provided you're not playing with someone who gets analysis paralysis).

I will have to get my hands on Seven Wonders. That sounds like a game I would really enjoy!

Our games of Trucker tend to be spastic and hilarious (things like 'Oh, I appear to have forgotten more than one thruster or cargo hold' and 'Oh, I appear to have a ship made of lasers and nothing else' come up regularly). I am sure Tricia will have fun. Beer would probably facilitate extra enjoyment :)

Congrats! That is so exciting!

How did you become involved in the collection?

Networking :)

The editors are two local authors I had into the store for signings when I was manager. That business association evolved into a social and writing critique group.

I was not confident enough to submit to the first anthology, the Ur-Bar one, but I did this one, and damn am I glad!

I think it is actually harder when you know the editors. I was super anxious they would not like it, that it would be terrible compared to the professional authors submitting. I think I lucked out on the theme for this one, and stumbled upon an idea that was amusing enough to interest me, and fleshed out nicely as I wrote.

Oh! Here's a question. Technical - do you have to underline italicized words and put five spaces before paragraphs? I kept finding published author sites saying yes, but I didn't know if that advice was outdated.

Any format specifics that the editors had in mind, they communicated when they sent stories back for edits. Font, spacing, style changes were all taken care of at that point. I can ask if the underline and spacing points are standard if you would like.

Its a wee bit overwhelming from this end of things :) I am far less shy having met her, but it is a massive honor to share page space with her. And I could say the same for every name on that list.

Such a damn good group of people to end up in an anthology with!
