Moved the bulk of the seedlings to the basement yesterday. We rigged a grow station down there that looks fairly fantastic (pics coming soon) and hopefully will turn out fantastic little plants.

We have four plant lights, two per hanging fixture above a home made plant stand (a long board supported by stacks of cinder blocks). The beauty of the cinder block set up is that we can adjust the height as needed simply by removing a block on each end. Lights are on a timer, so we will get day and night. We are pretty excited to see how this turns out. It is warm (for a NY basement in March) down there, so we shouldn't have to worry about temperature.

On the kitchen table, the intricate seed starter remains with its collection of heirloom tomatoes and peppers. The peppers are, as always, slow to germinate, so I want to keep them where I can monitor them more closely until the plants are established.

Purchased manure yesterday to spread on the garden area, so we are getting on to prepping what will be the garden. Plan is to lay the manure, and then till, so everything is all nice and mixed in. We want to let the grass compost a bit before we start actually planting, so tilling will hopefully occur in the near future.

Planting the rest of the herb and tomatillo seeds today, so the kitchen table will again contain encampments of seeds as opposed to place settings.

I love garden talk! I look forward to seeing pictures of all your gardening. What kinds of tomatoes are you trying? I much prefer heirloom varieties. Last year I tried Black Krim, which is a beautiful dark purpley tomato. I limit myself to tomatoes and basil these days. I'll try something new this year.
