The ups and the downs
May. 30th, 2012 08:08 amFriday I leave for my parents'. Saturday we all make the trek down to North Carolina to stay at the Outer Banks for a week. I have not been down there in many years- we used to go as a family all the time. It will be both an amazing and a hard week as my sister's absence is going to be particularly noticeable in our old haunt. But it will be so good to do something as a family.
In preparation for the week, I went to make sure all of my prescriptions were filled, and ran into a snag. Some blood work I had done came back bad. The good news, the blood sugar problems that had flagged initially have resolved themselves. The bad news, there is something up with my liver. I like my liver. I am using it. So I had am impromptu doctors appointment yesterday, where I had an ultrasound of my liver scheduled, and then a medical student drew five vials of my blood (most painless blood draw ever. Good on you, med student!) and now I sit and wait for all manner of results.
And, I had to tell the family as I will need to rush back to Binghamton from vacation to have the ultrasound, so they are all on edge. Good times!
But hey, if anything is wrong we have caught it damn early. I am not stressed. The doctor is not overly stressed. I will just see what happens.
And in the meantime, my yard is full of fledgling starlings begging (loudly) for food. Reminds me of Ferdinand when he was a baby (only a year ago!). Only this time I do not have to grab the starling baby food every time I hear that sound.
