"They are the people you pass on the street, sit next to on the bus. They are the heroes of personal triumphs, victims of personal tragedy. This is a book of little things- small casts, snippets of lives- but the way Carroll writes them makes them so very grand. The fantastic is woven so adeptly into the mundane that you don’t even know it is there until you meet the Minotaur at the center of the Labyrinth, shatter a luck curse, hatch a fairy egg, or deal with the Devil at midnight."

I learned over the Easter/Passover/Springsteen Concert holiday that I enjoy Matzo Brei (Matzo and scrambled eggs) which is blamed heavily on [livejournal.com profile] suricattus and her post-concert breakfast (and lets not even get into the whitefish salad on Matzo...divine). I of course raided a local store for Matzo and various supplies when I got back home from my trip and have enjoyed Matzo Brei on and off for weeks.

And now the last bit of Matzo is stale. But I hate to throw things out, and for some reason stale Matzo amuses me. So I prepped my Matzo Brei anyway.

Mildmay always tries to steal my food- his table manners are atrocious. I apologize ahead of time to any house guests who run into this (that and his habit of sneaking into everyone's shower...). He especially enjoys my scrambled eggs. Today I played a rather dirty trick on him. Instead of shooing him away and grumbling at him in German like I usually do, I let him snag a piece of egg-laden Matzo.

Milly took a bite, chewed for a second and then left the room. I assume this means he does not approve of my unwillingness to dispose of the stale Matzo in a more modern manner- like throwing it away.

...I think it tastes fine...
