fireunI love autumn. It is in the colors, but it is mostly in the scents. I love the smell of leaves on the ground- musty and moist and sleepy and secret.
Oh, I do love the sights as well. It is as if summer has taken one last deep breath and exhaled color. Driving through the hills and the mountains of NY in the early morning, breaking free of the patches of fog that cover sleepy valleys and into gold. It is magnificent. There is nothing like it.
It is my favorite season, a relief from the heat and the humidity, a desire to settle, to dig in. I inevitably rearrange my living space- I have already moved some furniture around my bedroom. I am eyeing spaces that need to be cleaned. This year it is additionally magnificent as I have land to tend and coax into resting for the winter.
This is my Hail to the turning of the seasons, this 'then' to 'soon'.
